Palm Frond Earrings

The Palm Frond Earrings are pressed rather than cast — the leaf form is stamped from sheet 18-karat rose gold using a steel die, then hand-finished to accentuate the central vein and flatten the edges to a sharp, clean line. Pressing gives the metal a slightly different surface character than casting: smoother across the face, with a crisp edge that casting rounds off.

At 2.4 grams the pair, they are light enough to wear for a full day without awareness. The post and butterfly are made from the same rose gold as the face; no mixed metals.

A small piece, but not a simple one. The die alone took two weeks to cut.
