Caring for your piece.

Remove your piece before applying perfume, hairspray, or any cosmetic product. Chemicals found in everyday formulations — alcohols, acids, silicones — react with gold alloys and stone surfaces over time, dulling their finish and weakening adhesives in set stones.

Take off rings and bracelets before swimming, whether in the sea, a pool, or a hot tub. Chlorine is particularly damaging to 18-karat alloys with a high copper content, and salt water accelerates tarnishing on sterling silver pieces from the Lighthouse collection.

For routine cleaning, soak the piece for two minutes in warm (not hot) water with a single drop of mild dish soap. Use a soft-bristled brush — a baby toothbrush is ideal — to work gently around any stone settings, then rinse thoroughly under running water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners for any piece that contains a stone, a pearl, or an enamel inset. The vibrations can loosen prong settings over time and crack softer stones such as coral. Ultrasonic cleaning is safe only for plain, unset metal pieces — and even then we recommend professional cleaning every twelve months.

Store each piece in its own pouch or compartment. Gold scratches against gold, and diamond facets will scratch softer stones if they share a drawer. The Aurelia dust pouch included with every purchase is anti-tarnish treated and large enough to hold the piece and its chain without folding.

For sterling silver pieces — the Bridgetown Cufflinks and Pier Bracelet — place an anti-tarnish strip in the same compartment and replace it every three months. Store away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity. A cool, dry drawer is preferable to a bathroom cabinet.

We recommend a professional polish and inspection once a year — more often for pieces worn daily. During a service visit, a bench jeweller will check prong integrity, re-tip any worn prongs, re-polish the metal surface, and re-apply rhodium plating to white-gold or platinum pieces where specified.
